Our tree nursery in Embu, Kenya, is certified organic by Ecocert. The nursery focuses on the propagation and further development of macadamia, avocado, mango and coffee seedlings for Kenyan smallholder farmers and other customers in Kenya.

High-yielding tree seedlings developed with scientists

With the support of scientists and agronomic experts, LIMBUA has developed high-yielding seedlings using data from the nursery and the farms of Kenyan smallholder farmers. The selection and propagation work focuses on varieties suited to the respective growing areas and agricultural applications.

As of 2026, more than 480,000 organic tree seedlings have been raised in the nursery. All seedlings are grafted to combine selected plant characteristics and prepare them for cultivation on the farms.

Mature macadamia trees can provide shade within mixed farming systems. Their root systems can also contribute to soil stability. The specific development of each tree depends on factors such as variety, location, soil conditions, rainfall and farm management.

How to plant macadamia seedlings

Macadamia seedlings require a suitable location with well-drained soil, sufficient sunlight and an adequate water supply. Planting distances, soil preparation and farm management should be adapted to the conditions of the individual farm.

Depending on the variety, location and farm management, macadamia trees may begin producing their first nuts after approximately four to five years. Production generally increases as the trees mature and can reach its main productive phase from around the tenth year.

Avocado, mango and coffee seedlings

In addition to macadamia seedlings, the nursery raises avocado, mango and coffee seedlings for Kenyan smallholder farmers and other customers in Kenya. The available varieties are selected for cultivation in the respective growing areas.

The nursery team provides information about current availability, suitable varieties, order quantities and delivery options within Kenya.

The seedlings are available to contracted smallholder farmers and other customers in Kenya. To request current availability and prices, contact the nursery team with the required quantity and preferred tree varieties.

Pickup is available from the LIMBUA nursery in Embu. Delivery within Kenya can be coordinated depending on the destination, order quantity and current availability.
