WHY LIMBUA?

Organic products and more

There are many reasons to choose LIMBUA as your partner for organic products.

Here are 14 of them:

Directly from
the producer

LIMBUA works directly with 9,000 certified farmers, without intermediaries.

As a customer, you receive organic products directly from the farm, while farmers receive digital and traceable payments.

We are
on site

More than 900 employees currently work in LIMBUA’s rural production facilities.

This integrates smallholder farmers and their families into the value chain and creates local economic perspectives that help counteract migration to urban slums.

We are
certified

LIMBUA is certified according to organic standards (EU / USDA), Fair for Life, as well as Halal and Kosher, and also holds IFS certification at Higher Level and BRC Food Safety certification (Grade AA).

Additional certifications such as Naturland, Demeter, Bio Suisse, Rainforest Alliance or ROC are available depending on the product.

Sustainability
in practice

Together with leading scientists, we have developed high-yielding plant varieties for high-quality macadamias, mangoes and avocados in our own nursery.

More than 200,000 organic seedlings have been raised in this way.

Organic
Production

Since its founding in 2009, LIMBUA has focused on organic farming in mixed cropping systems.

Many farmers transitioned to organic cultivation through their collaboration with LIMBUA.

With a focus on people and the environment.

INTEGRIFOLIA
QUALITY

LIMBUA processes only the high-quality macadamia variety Integrifolia, not Tetraphylla.

Integrifolia has a higher oil content and a lower sugar content, which can support higher yields for farmers.

Handsorted

Each macadamia nut is cracked using specially developed nutcrackers and sorted by hand.

LIMBUA macadamia nuts are characterised by a particularly uniform appearance.

Manual sorting removes defective nuts and supports consistent product quality.

WOMEN...

...make an important difference at LIMBUA: the majority of our smallholder farmers and employees in LIMBUA’s production facilities are women.

Whether as supervisors, managers or in harvest recording: LIMBUA promotes the empowerment of women across all roles and supports their economic participation within their families.

Transparent
Payment System

We have established a transparent payment system to support improved income opportunities for smallholder farmers.

LIMBUA pays via mobile phone (M-Pesa).

No cash payments. No external intermediaries.

Continous
Training

LIMBUA provides continuous training for smallholder farmers in organic farming practices.

Our entire team in Kenya, including management, works in offices within farming communities and regularly participates in training sessions.

Traceability

For our customers: LIMBUA enables traceability along the supply chain down to individual smallholder farmers. Know where organic products come from.

For our smallholders: the fully digitalised process provides a high level of operational reliability. Only calibrated digital scales are used during procurement, helping to reduce discrepancies.

DIGITALIZATION

For LIMBUA, nature and progress are not mutually exclusive.

Through our own digital system, we have significantly improved harvest procurement processes, making them faster, simpler and more traceable.

For our contract farmers, this contributes to greater transparency in operational processes.

OWN
DRYING Process

We have developed our own gentle drying method.

This supports a consistent moisture level in the nuts and reduces the risk of mould formation.

The process also maintains traceability down to individual smallholder farmers after drying.

USING
RESOURCES

For LIMBUA, responsible use of resources means making use of as many parts of the harvested crops as possible.

For example, smallholder farmers use the green outer husk of macadamias as organic fertiliser on their farms after processing.

The brown shells are used as fuel for ovens that power the drying systems in our production facilities.
