Where Education Meets Practice: School Visit at LIMBUA

Baricho Boys at LIMBUA in Ena
The Baricho High School visits LIMBUA – a hands-on insight into sustainable agriculture and processing.

In July 2025, LIMBUA once again had the pleasure of welcoming a student group from Baricho Boys High School to our production facility in Ena (EPZ). The students – a graduating class with a focus on German – aged between 17 and 18, took part in a guided tour and gained fascinating insights into the world of organic food processing. They experienced an exclusive “behind the scenes” look – with the opportunity to ask questions and witness firsthand how the harvests of our LIMBUA smallholder farmers are processed.

The school visit at LIMBUA was a special day for the students – and part of a broader commitment: for years, we have been working with several schools in the region to share practical knowledge about organic farming, sustainability, and modern food processing with the next generation.

Our aim is to inspire young minds to consider the future and actively participate in creating sustainable structures and decisions even at their age. This includes

  • protecting the environment
  • advocating for improved food systems
  • and encouraging them to grow into responsible global citizens dedicated to making a positive impact.

Learning where real Organic Production happens

During the tour of our macadamia and mango drying units, laboratory, and avocado oil production line, the students gained a tangible understanding of how organic processing works. In practical breakout sessions, they explored topics aligned with their personal interests and career aspirations – such as renewable energy, agricultural science, or technology.

In the physics/engineering group, for example, students explored the structure and functionality of our drying systems and biomass boilers. They were particularly impressed by the step-by-step control and monitoring of the machinery. Other groups, such as biology and chemistry, also engaged in subject-specific sessions.

The young men showed great curiosity and were eager to ask our LIMBUA experts plenty of questions – including: “Where do you source your raw materials?” and “What actions are you taking to reduce your carbon footprint?”
The school visit at LIMBUA thus offered more than just hands-on technology – it created space for dialogue and deeper insight into sustainable processes.

Sustainability made tangible

Our approach to biodynamic agriculture was also presented in an engaging and practical way. LIMBUA teams designed the sessions to be interactive, allowing students to experience sustainable farming up close. Among other things, the students examined organic farming inputs, touched and smelled compost used for soil regeneration, and watched a video presentation illustrating how traceability works at LIMBUA – from the farm to the finished product.

This direct experience with materials, processes, and experts made sustainability not only understandable, but truly tangible for the students.

Why we work with schools

We believe in the power of education – and in the idea that hands-on experience is more impactful than any lecture. Our goal is to show young people the meaningful opportunities that exist in organic agriculture and responsible food production. Through our school partnerships, we aim to:

  • Open up future career perspectives in a purpose-driven sector
  • Share knowledge that is often missing from traditional curricula
  • And take responsibility for the region we are rooted in

A day that makes an Impact

The school visit at LIMBUA is just one of many educational initiatives we regularly carry out. Whether it's hands-on lessons on organic farming in local schools, insights into our biodynamic operations, or our community clean-up project – we open our doors intentionally, for the next generation of changemakers.

Feedback from the students and teachers was overwhelmingly positive: eye-opening and inspiring. That’s exactly what we want to achieve.
We’re already looking forward to the next school collaboration – and to continuing our efforts alongside educational institutions for a more sustainable future.
