LIMBUA products now also Naturland certified

Naturland certification for LIMBUA products
Certified organic and social standards have played an important role within the LIMBUA value chain for many years. With the Naturland certification for our macadamia, avocado and mango products, LIMBUA adds another recognized standard for organic agriculture and social criteria to its existing certifications.

LIMBUA is the world's first producer of Naturland-certified organic macadamias. The certification adds further requirements along our supply chain – from smallholder farmers to processing in Kenya.

What does the Naturland seal represent?

The Naturland seal identifies products that are produced in accordance with defined ecological and social guidelines. The requirements are based on EU organic standards and include additional criteria in various areas of agriculture and processing.

Key topics include, among others:

  • Requirements for organic agriculture
  • Documentation and traceability of agricultural processes
  • Guidelines for the use of natural resources
  • Workplace safety and social standards along the value chain
  • Criteria for animal husbandry within mixed farming systems

The Naturland Association was founded in Germany in 1982 and is active in numerous countries today.

Animal Husbandry within Mixed Farming Systems

LIMBUA primarily processes macadamia nuts, avocados and mangoes. Many LIMBUA smallholder farmers also keep animals such as cows, goats or chickens on their farms – both for their own use and as part of agricultural cycles.

The Naturland guidelines include requirements for animal husbandry, feeding and the use of certain medications. Measures for documentation and control within the farms are also reviewed.

Benefits of the Naturland Certification for Smallholder Farmers

The additional certification involves further requirements for documentation, training and farm-level processes. At the same time, it gives smallholder farmers access to additional market segments with specific requirements for organic and social standards.

The requirements also cover topics such as workplace safety, hygiene measures and organizational processes within the farms.

In addition, the certification can open up further market opportunities and support access to customers with specific requirements for certified supply chains.

Certified Standards along the Supply Chain

The Naturland certification complements the existing organic and social standards within the LIMBUA supply chain. Together with other certifications, it documents requirements for organic agriculture, traceability and defined social standards across different areas of the value chain.
